About the role:

 

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Policy, the Senior Pension Policy Strategist is a trusted advisor and thought leader who applies their expertise to the design, development, and implementation of leading-edge pension policy that supports the business and strategic priorities of the Ontario Pension Board (OPB) in the administration of the Public Service Pension Plan (the Plan).

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Conducting research and developing pension policy recommendations for Senior Management. 
  • Interpreting applicable legislation and analysing its impact to OPB and the Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP). 
  • Delivering policy guidance to internal business partners including Client Services and assisting with resolving escalated client issues. 
  • Reviewing client communications to ensure alignment with applicable legislation, and OPB’s organizational mission to Advise & Protect plan members.
  • Proactively analyse and influence legislative and regulatory developments. 
  • Building and maintaining strong partnerships across the organization, government and the pension industry to inform and influence strategic policy priorities.  

 

Key Qualification:

 

  • Proven strategic thinking skills and the ability to understand the broad picture, consider consequences, and identify key issues and opportunities.
  • An ability to assess how current policies, processes and methods may be affected by future developments and trends.
  • An ability to assess internal and external stakeholders’ needs and to propose creative solutions for meeting those needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to translate technical material into a format that can be understood by a wide audience.
  • Sound judgment and advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective project management skills and the ability to coordinate with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • An ability to work independently and be adaptable in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment in which managing multiple competing time-sensitive priorities.
  • Familiarity with the administration of defined benefit pension plans and their governing legislation, including the Pension Benefits Act, the federal Income Tax Act, the Employment Standards Act, 2000, and/or the Family Law Act would be a strong asset.

 

Compensation:

  • The target hiring salary for this position is $110,000. A candidate’s placement in the range is based on skills, knowledge, experience, and internal equity, with consideration for how the candidate is developing, meets, or exceeds the role’s requirements​. This position is eligible to participate in OPB’s Annual Incentive Program, subject to its terms and conditions.
