Reporting to the Director of Pension Advocacy and Legal, this role is a unique opportunity for a strategic actuarial professional to lead and deliver the actuarial function at OPB.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

The Senior Actuary is responsible for all in-house actuarial services. This individual prepares data for going concern and solvency valuations, forecasting, sensitivity analysis and benefit costings, participates in negotiations with other pension plans, writes pension policies and reviews plan design.  They develop metrics to determine, analyze and forecast Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP) membership trends and has an understanding of external industry trends and how they may impact the demographics and funding of the PSPP. This position assists in preparing materials used in supporting senior management and the Board of Directors on actuarial matters. Provides technical actuarial support for OPB staff as required, liaises with external actuarial advisors on various projects and assists the Pension Policy team on various initiatives. Ensures actuarial accuracy of all OPB publications and communication materials.

 

Key Qualifications:

 

Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries is required, with a minimum of 7+ years of actuarial experience in the pension industry. Expert knowledge of actuarial standards, valuation methods and actuarial techniques related to the pension industry. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly written communication skills, including the ability to explain extremely technical and highly complex mathematical concepts. Exceptional analytical and research skills and outstanding attention to detail. A demonstrated expertise in spreadsheet programming and statistical analysis programs. Highly developed organizational skills, with the ability to set priorities, manage timelines and handle concurrent deliverables with minimal supervision. Comprehensive knowledge of the PSPP and its governing legislation as well as other provincial and federal legislation affecting pensions.
